Biscuits

We made a double batch for Christmas dinner. They were easy to make and delicious with very thin slices of ham from A.B. Vannoy.

Biscuits

3 c. flour
3 T. sugar
1/2 tsp salt
4 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp cream of tartar
3/4 cup (1.5 sticks) frozen butter
1 egg, gently beaten
1 c. whole milk, cold

Preheat oven to 450 degrees.

Grate butter into a bowl using a box grater and return to freezer.

Combine all dry ingredients in a large mixing bowl.

With a pastry cutter (if you have one) or a fork (if you don’t), cut the frozen butter into the dry ingredients.

Add milk and egg and mix to combine.

Turn dough out onto a generously floured surface. Sprinkle flour on top of the dough and knead 10-15 times, folding the dough over each time.

Roll out the dough to c. 3/4 inch thickness and cut with a biscuit cutter.

Place biscuits on a lightly greased or parchment lined baking sheet and bake for c. 15 minutes, until tops are golden brown.
