Here is Daisy performing her nightly task of clearing the deer from the field. This week we had a visit from John Harris and his boys, who, together with their yellow lab Milo, are driving cross country to visit John’s mother in Little Compton, Rhode Island. It is always great to see the Harris family, […]

If you are a deer, and you do not respect the apron, you will be chased! Daisy shows really impressive speed here. Because deer seem well aware of Daisy’s electronic fence, sometimes she needs some backup.

Jen and Daisy enjoyed the first really warm day of spring, sunbathing on the lawn. Jen had to get Daisy her own towel. Everything is starting to bloom, even this aged pear tree. Herman, our bachelor muskrat, can be seen each evening swimming back and forth across the pond, building his nest.

Spring is bursting forth: here’s a fox carrying around her kit, temperatures were above 50 degrees for much of the day, and Jen’s garden-in-exile is thriving in our dining room. We are hoping the last frost is behind us!

This soggy faun ran past the house today to wish me a happy Father’s Day.

We seem to have a number of foxes in the neighborhood (or at least two). Here’s one in the front yard. Foxes are nice to see, but I hadn’t seen our large flock of wild turkeys in a while. I was relieved to see that, for now, they seem to be coexisting with the foxes […]

Saturday was a washout but the sun came out this afternoon. Daisy, who has been very good lately, received this antler from the Rhinebeck Farmers Market. She seems to be enjoying it quite a bit. This red fox has been prowling around all weekend. I was lucky to get these shots with Daisy standing behind […]

A soggy Saturday morning gave way to sunshine and bacon skies by afternoon. While Sarah worked on an English essay, Jen, Daisy and I visited Poets’ Walk, overlooking the Hudson in Red Hook. After our return, Daisy ended up in a face-off with a rather large coyote. Daisy barked ferociously, causing the coyote to retreat […]

Here’s the view from atop the Ferris wheel at the Dutchess County Fair. Aunts Julie and Stacey visited for the weekend. Sarah, shown here on the high swing with her mother, attended all six days of the fair. She won a fistful of ribbons riding Owen in an equitation competition, although she has somewhat less […]

Daisy, battling an ear infection, has been off her feed. Picking up the slack, this diabolically industrious chipmunk devoured not yet ripe blackberries for which Jen had other plans. Jen was consoled by her stargazer lilies, blooming in front of the house. While Sarah was at the town pool, we took a walk and were […]
