Daisy, battling an ear infection, has been off her feed. Picking up the slack, this diabolically industrious chipmunk devoured not yet ripe blackberries for which Jen had other plans. Jen was consoled by her stargazer lilies, blooming in front of the house. While Sarah was at the town pool, we took a walk and were […]

We returned from an impromptu long (seven-day) weekend in Croatia, where we toured walled cities and Roman ruins and sampled the general pleasures of the Adriatic. Some kind of hot air balloon confab was held in Rhinebeck this weekend. Jen caught this balloon over East Market Street while she was buying a loaf of bread. […]

Our Feverfew is enjoying a moment in the late summer garden. Also enjoying a moment: our rhubarb, as well as Jen, whose birthday was Friday. She celebrated (after a nice birthday supper at Le Petit Bistro) by combining the rhubarb with blackberries to make Rhu-Berry jam. Jen entered that, together with four other jams, in […]

Here, via Jen’s iPhone camera, is one of our blooming poppies, in traditional kit. We also have non-traditional poppies, such as this white one. Here’s a wacky pink one. In forestry news, I got my new chain saw stuck in a log while clearing a downed elm. Fortunately Chuck Kelso stopped by to help me […]

It rained all day on Memorial Day. I was already a bit sad because this was the first year that Sarah did not march in the Memorial Day Parade. She has, however, kept busy. In anticipation of camp, less than a month away, Sarah has been practicing the ukulele. We had a number of visitors, […]

They say there’s always good fishing after a rain. When Daisy and I arrived at the farm on Saturday morning (Jen and Sarah were on a Caedmon alumni canoe trip in Narrowsburg), we found it cold and wet: 55 degrees with a driving rain. Eventually the skies cleared, and we saw this heron fishing for a […]

The Ravens played their last game of the season — perhaps their last game ever — on Sunday against West Point. They played an excellent, spirited game against a very tough opponent. While they did not prevail, they should be proud of how they played as a team. Jen cut a few peonies before we left.

Sylph-like Sarah frolicked on the bench. We are glad that springtime is here, although it was only about 50 degrees. The lilacs, and many other flowers, are blooming.

We had a brief visit to the farm this weekend — just long enough to see some tulips in bloom.

Sarah kept smiling through her first weekend with braces. It was hard to remain altogether cheerful during today’s 8-1 drubbing by the Cornwall Copa. However, we were all smiles when a throw-in by Sarah led to the Ravens’ only goal, near the end of the second half. Our new Star Magnolia is more of a Cameo Magnolia […]
