Semblance of Winter
We had three or four inches of snow on Saturday — just enough to justify a blazing fire. Daisy doesn’t mind the snow a bit.

Today we visited the NYS Sheep & Wool Family Fun Festival at the Dutchess County Fairgrounds. It is knitting ladies’ nirvana. Not straying far from the ovine theme, Sarah found a litter of border collies for sale. Back at home, Daisy took advantage of the continued warm weather. It was in the mid-seventies both days […]

Today we enjoyed Porchfest, Rhinebeck’s second annual effort to bring musicians to the porches of the village of Rhinebeck. (Back at the farm, we have Porchfest every weekend, weather permitting.) A highlight was seeing Al Wolcott perform with his jazz trio on Maya & Guy’s porch. They had a party afterward. Here is Jen at […]

While the farm brooded like Heathcliff, we ourselves had a happy Labor Day weekend. Erica & Geoff visited, and John Harris flew in from Los Angeles to join me at Pete Townshend’s Classic Quadrophenia at Tanglewood. On Sunday, Geoff and I squared off for an amiable Iron Chef-style pizza-making challenge. Today we climbed the fire tower […]

Jen ranges far and wide gathering berries. If you look carefully, you can see her trusty companion, Daisy.

It rained all day on Memorial Day. I was already a bit sad because this was the first year that Sarah did not march in the Memorial Day Parade. She has, however, kept busy. In anticipation of camp, less than a month away, Sarah has been practicing the ukulele. We had a number of visitors, […]

Daisy enjoyed one of the few hours of sunlight we had this weekend. While Jen was in Boston, Sarah and I made pizza and watched To Catch a Thief. Also, over the weekend, Sarah more or less learned to play the ukulele.

After nearly a month away, we returned to the farm to find plenty of fresh powder for sledding and snowball fights. Sarah hosted the Lawson twins for winter sports and hot cocoa. Here is Sarah, all bundled up. We had to return early Sunday to avoid another 7″-12″ of snow.

We rode out the end of the year at the farm. While we didn’t have a white Christmas, the holiday was bookended by dustings that produced a little more snow than advertised. Pictured is “less than an inch.” We had a fine tree with many presents beneath it. Sarah performed her customary ceremonial duties as […]

Daisy is patiently waiting for Thanksgiving, when she hopes many items will fall off the dining table. We had a surprise dusting of snow overnight. We hope it won’t interfere with anyone’s holiday travel plans!
